Urban Gardening – work in progress
Colour photographs and MM-Narrative (3 min.)
Urban Gardening examines Beijing city dwellers’ endeavour to secure a small plot of land to cultivate and grow vegetable. Even the tiniest, most unobtrusive piece of soil is good enough to evoke a sense of nature and rural life within the densely built metropolis. The small gardens hardly serve economic purposes but can mostly be seen as a link to the ‘citizen gardeners’ past or rural upbringing.
Urban Gardening MM-narrative includes still pictures of gardens and surrounding, portraits of the gardeners who run them and interviews in which their motives of setting up and keeping a ‘garden space’ are examined.
